Heading to TEDxDetroit Labs

Throughout time, artists have used their canvas to explore social, political and cultural issues, often showing people what they may not see.

Now, after a dynamic exhibition at the Michigan State Fair over Labor Day, we’re heading to TEDxDetroit Labs where “the area’s leading creators, entrepreneurs, educators, artists, geeks, designers, scientists, leaders, thinkers and doers will gather Thursday, October 6th, in Detroit to share what they are most passionate about – positive ideas for the world from Detroit.”

We were invited after we local artists helped us promote reading and community by putting their work on 25 Little Free Libraries destined for Detroit. The unique exhibition was part of the inaugural Little Library Prize – an art show based on the model of Grand Rapid’s acclaimed ArtPrize, but with a social mission.

Top vote-getters won cash prizes and a smaller exhibition will be part of “The Art of Promoting Reading, and Detroit” at TEDxDetroit Labs. Join us onOct. 6!

After TEDxDetroit, the libraries will then be planted in community gardens in Detroit to increase book circulation in neighborhoods, where studies have shown there is only one book for every 42 children.
